The Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association (AOWMA) proudly hosted its annual Convention and Trade Show from March 12–14 in Nisku, Alberta, bringing together onsite wastewater professionals from across the province. The three-day event featured engaging workshops, networking opportunities, and a vibrant trade show floor — but the standout moments came during the awards ceremony, where two exceptional individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the industry.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Lesley Desjardins
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Lesley Desjardins, whose remarkable career has left an indelible mark on the onsite wastewater industry in Alberta, and across Western Canada. Lesley has spent decades championing education, mentoring new professionals, and advocating for high industry standards. Her leadership, technical expertise, and dedication to sustainable wastewater practices have inspired countless peers. The standing ovation she received was a clear reflection of the deep respect and admiration held by colleagues throughout the industry.
Contractor of the Year: Darcy Ruddy
Darcy Ruddy was named Contractor of the Year, an honor that recognizes his commitment to excellence in the installation and maintenance of onsite systems. Darcy is known for his professionalism, attention to detail, and strong relationships with clients and peers alike. His work sets a high bar for quality and reliability, and his recognition underscores the vital role contractors play in upholding the integrity of the industry.
