The County of Rocky View approved new wastewater policies on May 10, 2011 which outline the protocol for communal wastewater systems as well as onsite wastewater systems within county limits.  The policy provides a directive on the types of systems that will be allowed and the required operation and maintenance protocols.

While the County of Rocky View will take over the operation and maintenance of regional and communal wastewater systems, private septic or onsite wastewater systems will remain the responsibility of the homeowner.

The policy limits the types of onsite wastewater systems that may be used on lots smaller than four acres and outlaws the use of sewage holding tanks in residential subdivisions.
