The Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association (AOWMA) welcomes abstracts for papers to be presented at the AOWMA Annual Convention and Trade Show “Collaborating to Build Our Community” in Nisku, Alberta on March 12 – 14, 2025, at Coast Nisku Inn & Conference Centre, Nisku, Alberta.
The AOWMA annual Convention and Trade Show serves the onsite professionals in Alberta and Western Canada by providing the opportunity to learn about the newest information, research, technology, regulatory changes, experiences and practices in their field. The event also allows for those attending to network with their peers, view and learn about some of the newest equipment available in the industry.
All subject matter relating to decentralized wastewater and water systems is open for submission, however posters and/or presentations with a hands-on focus for delegates will be given special consideration. We invite papers that present original work, both theoretical and applied, in all areas of decentralized wastewater and water systems. Central issues to be considered include:
- Installation best practices
- Influence of the surrounding eco systems
- Treatment processes and soil environments
- Understanding commonly used system components
- Nutrient reduction research and case studies
- Cluster system design and application
- Reuse case studies and research
- System performance evaluation
- Modeling of decentralized systems
- Soil and site evaluation tools
- Standards, regulations and policy
- Responsible management entities
- Performance Standards
- Education, training and certification
- Successful planning and management strategies to assure performance
- Integrated water resource management strategies
Submittal Procedures
Please include the following information with your submittal:
- Title of paper
- Abstract – 200 to 300 word description of the proposed paper and presentation.
- Name of Lead Author and Presenter
- Affiliation of Lead Author and Presenter
- Address of Lead Author and Presenter
- Phone number and email address of Lead Author/Presenter
- Names of co-authors, if any.
- A short biography of Presenter in paragraph form that includes educational degrees and description of experience as it relates to the onsite industry. A photograph should accompany the biography.
- Format for presentation, i.e. individual presentation or panel discussion.
Abstract and Paper Deadlines
- Abstract submittals are due by January 15, 2025.
- Abstracts may be submitted by email or by mail to AOWMA, #101, 21115-108 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5S 1X3.
- Confirmation of abstracts submission will be sent via email within one week of the abstract being received.
- Posters and/or presentations with a hands-on focus for delegates will be given special consideration.
- Individuals will be notified of the Convention Committee’s selection by February 5, 2025 and provided with instructions regarding paper criteria and format. A draft agenda will also be provided at this time.
- Approved submittals are to be produced as papers and submitted via email for review and editing by February 24, 2025.
- Comments and/or edited papers will be returned to the author by March 3, 2025.
- Final papers must be provided to the AOWMA offices by March 7, 2025 in electronic format to be included in the conference proceedings.
