Installation Issues and Trouble Shooting – April 14

Presenter: Chic Shaw has been serving the wastewater industry in Northern Alberta for 35 years.  Throughout the years Chic has seen practically everything and has extensive experience in high water table installations.  Chic is the current President of the Alberta Onsite Wastewater management Association (AOWMA) and has been a Board member for a total of 8 years.

Overview: in his presentation Chic will touch on installation practices to best mitigate potential problems; paying special attention to high water table sites.  Septic tanks, pumps, plumbing, and downfield components will all be discussed in regards to troubleshooting with installation tips and recommendations.

 

Advantex Treatment Systems – April 21

Presenter:  Dan Holborow is the Western Region Account Manager with Orenco Systems; the manufacturer of Advantex Treatment Systems.  Prior to joining Orenco in 2013, Dan spent more than 13 years in the construction industry, serving in a variety of technical, sales, and management roles.

Overview:  Dan’s presentation will explain the treatment process of the Advantex Treatment System for a clear understanding of how it works.  An overview of the two options, the standard Advantex unit and the Advantex RT unit, will be discussed highlighting the benefits of each.  Design criteria, installation practices, and maintenance will all be presented.

 

Site Evaluation – April 22 (morning of the Pig Roast)

Presenter:  Dale McLure has been in the Wastewater industry for over 33 years serving many different capacities.  His company, Sentry Water and Wastewater, focuses on design and maintenance of onsite wastewater systems.  Dale is the past President of the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association (AOWMA) serving 12 years in this role; he was a member of the Board for a total of 18 years.

Overview: in his presentation Dale will walk through section 7 (Site Evaluation) of the new 2015 SOP with special emphasis to the changes within.  Hydraulic and linear loading in relationship to the soils applied will be discussed and reviewed.  As well, soil samples of difficult sites will be present to analyse and discuss.  Soil coring tools will be present with the advantages and limitations of the tools discussed.


Time Dosing – April 26

Presenter: Chad Widmer started installing onsite wastewater systems with his father in the early 90’s as a teenager.  Over the years he has witnessed many changes and advances to the industry.  Chad’s company, Soilworx, focuses on design and maintenance of onsite wastewater systems.

Overview: in his presentation Chad will outline where the 2015 SOP touches Time Dosing.  The benefits and advantages of Time Dosing from both a practical and prescriptive (2015 SOP) standpoint will be addressed.  The design of a Time Dosed system will take place that will go through volumes required, timer settings, and float settings.
