Soils Days – Busby and Bowden

The AOWMA hosted two site and soils field days at the end of June.

\"\"Stephanie Munn led students in the practice of identifying and logging soils characteristics for the purpose of onsite wastewater system design.

Students were shown how to identify and mark soils horizons, how to assess the characteristics of each horizon and how to record that information in a soils log.

Following initial discussion and demonstration, students paired up to assess one or more test pits on the sites.

This site and soils field training is now required for those wishing to obtain their Certificate of Competency.

Many thanks to Francois and Marlene Fedorus for helping set up the Busby soils day, providing the excavation equipment and assisting with the training. Thanks also to Ken Jabs for providing the Bowden site and excavating the soils pits for the class. It is only through support of AOWMA members like these that we are able to provide field training.
